Pet Urgent Care Services at Love Animal Hospital & Urgent Care
Welcome! I’m Dr. Ryan Smith from Love Animal Hospital & Urgent Care, and today I want to share some vital information about urgent care for pets, featuring my adorable puppy, Ranger.
When Does a Pet Need Urgent Care?
There are several clear situations where a pet might require urgent care:
- Ingestion of Toxic Substances: If your dog eats anything potentially toxic, such as medications or certain mushrooms, it’s crucial to seek help immediately. For instance, when Ranger accidentally ingested mushrooms, I rushed him to our hospital where we induced vomiting to eliminate the toxins as quickly as possible.
- Trauma: Any injury resulting from accidents, such as being hit by a car, is also urgent. Dog fights can lead to hidden injuries, like punctures that can cause serious infections, so don’t hesitate to seek care if you’re concerned.
- Behavioral Changes: If your energetic dog suddenly becomes lethargic or stops eating, that may be a sign of a serious issue. With breeds like Labradors, a loss of appetite needs immediate attention.
- Other Signs:
- Struggling to urinate, which may indicate a bladder infection or blockage.
- Prolonged vomiting or diarrhea that could lead to dehydration.
- Persistent coughing, which may point to kennel cough or another condition.
- Restlessness, including panting, could signal discomfort or pain.
This list is not exhaustive. If you notice any concerning symptoms in your pet, our team at Love Animal Hospital & Urgent Care is here to help.
